This past week (4/20-4/24), we started our "odyssey" (heh, heh...) through Greek mythology and our next reading, The Adventures of Ulysses (a re-telling of Homer's The Odyssey). IF YOU MISSED NOTES ON "THE EPIC" AND/OR NOTES ON THE POWERPOINT, PLEASE GET THEM FROM ME OR FROM A CLASSMATE -ASAP!
DUE DATES:
Monday, 4/27 (assigned Friday, 4/24): Read up to and including Page 9 of the text ("The Prologue," "Ships and Men," and "The Ciconians").
Tuesday, 4/28 (assigned Wednesday, 4/22): GREEK MYTH ASSIGNMENT - 1. Read the six myths on the handout. 2. Answer the two questions. 3. Create your own myth based on the guidelines given to you on the handout. Follow all directions carefully to earn maximum credit!
End-of-the-Unit, TBA (assigned Friday, 4/24): EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY - See your PowerPoint notes for details.
THIS WEEK:
Monday, 4/27 - Review of HW; two in-class writing questions based on the reading from the weekend; HW - read "The Lotus Eaters" and "The Cyclop's Cave"; be prepared for a possible quiz.
Tuesday, 4/28 - MYTH ASSIGNMENTS DUE! We will begin be hearing some of your original myths (participation points). We will also discuss the six myths and pull out contemporary references. There may be a quiz on last night's reading after our discussion. HW - By Monday (5/4), read "The Keeper of the Winds" and "Circe."
Wednesday, 4/29 - In-class work on the http://www.mythweb.com/ site (Odyssey scavenger hunt); due at the end of the period; HW - See above.
Thursday, 4/30 - OPEN NOTES TEST on "epic" and PowerPoint notes; explanation of Greek mythology resume assignment (which will count toward your writing/projects grade).
Friday, 5/1 - Periods 3 & 9 - MOVIE DAY! We will begin watching the film version of The Odyssey. Period 4 - No class due to half day. Don't forget about your homework!
